Can DTF be used on paper?
Share
DTF (Direct to Film) printing is specifically designed for use on fabrics, not paper. The process involves printing a design onto a special film, applying a powder adhesive, and then transferring it onto a textile through heat and pressure. Here’s why it's not suitable for paper:
-
Heat Sensitivity: Paper can easily warp, yellow, or burn when subjected to the high temperatures required to melt the adhesive and cure the ink during the DTF process.
-
Adhesive Compatibility: The powder adhesive used in DTF printing is formulated to bond ink to textile fibers. On paper, this adhesive might not adhere properly and could potentially damage the paper surface.
-
Purpose and Durability: DTF prints are designed to be flexible and washable, characteristics that are necessary for textiles but not applicable to paper products.
For printing designs on paper, methods like inkjet, laser printing, or even traditional screen printing are more appropriate, as they are tailored to handle the properties of paper and do not require the heat and adhesives involved in DTF printing.
